Hilde Byrne
Born and raised in Norway, Miss Hilde started her career as a dancer. She received her original training from the Norwegian Ballet Academy and continued training Rome and Paris. She went on to perform in West Side Story, Cats and A Chorus Line. At the same time, she was learning the skills for building costumes. After arriving in the United States, she taught for several ballet schools, then ran her own school for five years. She later joined the Long Beach Ballet, teaching the pre-ballet and children’s groups while honing her skills as a tutu maker. In 2006 she took over as the main costume provider for Long Beach Ballet and San Pedro Ballet, with productions that included Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Coppelia, Don Quixote, and The Nutcracker. In 2007 she revamped the costumes for Shag with a Twist in Las Vegas for Jetsetter Production and a fanny pack she designed for Prop Master, Guillaume DeLouche, survived the rigors of Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World as it clung to the young actor Ty Simpkins.
Additional credits include Exhibit IQ’s Eww! What’s Eating You? starring Carrot Top, Phantom of the Opera and Fairy Doll for Darren McIntyre Productions while she has also designed mermaid tails for commercials produced by and featuring Robert Downey Jr.. Her costumes have been seen on The Last Dance featuring Aaron Cash and the Broadway National Tour of I love Lucy® Live on Stage. In 2013 she opened Made by Miss Hilde in Long Beach, CA, and in 2021 after surviving the pandemic making masks by the thousands, the shop expanded and moved to Signal Hill under the name H Performance Wear. Miss Hilde and her staff continues to pride themselves on designing and building clothing and costumes that provides excellent fit, durability and happy clients for ballet, skating, dance, film, events and stages nationwide.
